This original vintage Japan travel poster from the 1960s was published by the Japan Tourist Association and features Noh Dance Prelude by celebrated Japanese artist Uemura Shoen. One of Japan's most acclaimed painters, Shoen was renowned for her elegant portraits of women (bijin-ga), blending classical beauty with exceptional technical skill.
The poster depicts a graceful woman in a vibrant red kimono holding a folding fan, her richly decorated garments inspired by traditional Noh theatre costumes. Originally painted in 1940, Noh Dance Prelude is considered one of Shoen's finest works and beautifully captures the refinement and timeless elegance of Japanese culture.
Condition: 1½-inch tear in the bottom margin, scattered creases, and light border wear. Otherwise in great condition.
