This rare original Swiss travel depicts the Hotel Kurhaus in Wassen, a municipality in the canton of Uri in Switzerland. The former Post-Hotel today serves as a nursing home for eldery people.
After the opening of the Gotthard railway in 1882, the chapel in Wassen became the landmark of the journey to the south, and a fix point for the confusing layout of the Gotthard tunnel. The Gotthardbahn rail line passes Wassen with a double loop curved tunnel.
In the old days Wassen served as a customs when passing over the Gotthard Pass . It's told Johann Wolfgang von Goethe passed through Wassen.
