The Bergen Steamship Company (BDS), was founded in 1851 by Michael Krohn. The company funnel was black with three widely spaced narrow white bands. The company is well known for their passenger traffic between Bergen and Newcastle.

This poster appears in Commercial Art / Art and Industry, December 1, 1934 and credits Finn Alfsen for the artwork.

The poster is marked BAB (Bergens Annonce-Byrå) at left bottom. Finn Alfsen was employed in 1930 as designer and advertising consultant in Bergens Advertising Agency, Bergen. He later moved to Oslo and In 1953 together with Torolf Becker started Alfsen & Becker Advertising Agency that later became Ted Bates, Oslo.
