A stunning original vintage travel poster promoting Australia as a travel destination using a wonderful rendering by Mayo of the Great Barrier Reef depicting a black and white striped longspined butterfly-fish & Heron Island volute, swimming by bright orange coral.
The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system supporting an extraordinary diversity of life, including many vulnerable or endangered species, some of which may be endemic to the reef system. The Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Mayo, Eileen Rosemary (Dame), 1906-1994:
Artist, illustrator, writer and teacher. Born Norwich, England. Arrived in Australia in 1953 and in New Zealand in 1962. She died in Christchurch, in 1994. Known for her illustrative work, screen prints, stamp and coin designs and calligraphy.
In great condition. Some small repairs at lower right edge. Conserved and mounted on linen.
