Railroad Travel |
A wonderful and very rare original authentic vintage poster promoting the Valdres Ekspress.
The Valdres Line (Valdresbanen) was a Norwegian railway that connected to the Gjøvik Line at Eina with Fagernes in the district of Valdres.
From 1906 to 1937 the line was private, but in 1937 NSB Norwegian State Railways took over operations of the line with a crew of 80. They operated it until 1988. Timber trains ran on the Landsbanen (Dokka-Eina) right up until the spring of 1999.
The designer of the poster, Finn Alfsen was employed in 1930 as designer and advertising consultant in Bergens Advertising Agency, Bergen. Alfsen had his educating at "Statens Kunst og håndverkskole" in Oslo, Schule Reichmann in Berlin and Battersea Polytechnic in London.
He won first prize for a Shell poster in the “Industrial Art Exhibition” London 1928, the same year as this poster was designed.
The poster is in almost good condition. Age wear. Light foxing at bottom. Mounted on linen.
