This original vintage poster, designed in 1921 by Torsten Schonberg, promotes the Second State Bond. The poster features a heraldic design with three Swedish crowns alongside horns of plenty filled with money, rendered in gold, blue and red ink.
A Swedish premium bond is a type of government bond, where purchasing bonds means lending money to the treasury. Issued by the National Debt Office, these bonds do not pay interest directly to individual holders. Instead, the interest is accumulated in a pool, and winners are drawn from among the bondholders. While holders are not guaranteed interest, they have the opportunity to win money in each draw.
The Swedish text reads: "Svenska statens II premieobligationslån á 100,000,000 kr. Två dragningar årligen med vinster å tillsammans kr. 6,000,000 kr. Högsta vinst varje dragning: kr. 200.000 kr. Obligationerna säljas genom postverket. Pris 50 kr.pr.obligation, 53 kr om obligation önskas på avbetalning. Fördelaktiga avbetalningsvillkor."
Although the poster shows some signs of age, including small tears and folds, it remains a historical artifact representing the Premium Bonds draw of the early 1920s.
