This is a spectacular original vintage poster promoting Elders & Fyffes' passenger services to the West Indies, Central, and South America. Founded in 1902, Elders & Fyffes was a pioneering shipping company, recognized as the first to build vessels specifically designed to transport bananas, utilizing refrigerated holds to ensure freshness.
The poster features *The Patia*, a ship built in 1913, which later served as the Armed Merchant Cruiser HMS Patia during World War I until it was torpedoed and sunk in 1918. In the foreground, a woman on the South American dock carries a fruit basket filled with oranges, while unripe green bananas, picked early for safe transport, are stacked nearby, ready for shipment.
The poster is in excellent condition, professionally mounted on linen with an acid-free barrier for preservation.
