This original vintage Swedish poster from 1938 promotes “Tag Simborgarmärket 10–17 Juli,” a national swimming campaign encouraging the public to earn the Simborgarmärket (Swedish swimming proficiency badge). The event was organized by Simfrämjandet in collaboration with the newspaper Dagens Nyheter, reflecting a broader movement in Sweden to promote swimming skills and water safety among the population.
Designed by Birger Lundqvist, the poster features a striking Art Deco–influenced composition dominated by a powerful swimmer diving forward through stylized water. The figure is rendered with bold, simplified forms and strong contrasts, set against a vivid blue background that evokes the depth and movement of water. The dynamic diagonal layout of the typography enhances the sense of motion and energy, while the red and white lettering creates a dramatic visual impact.
The emblem of Simfrämjandet appears at the lower right, reinforcing the campaign’s official character. Lundqvist was known for his strong graphic style and effective use of color and movement, making this poster a fine example of Swedish graphic design from the late 1930s.
In very good condition with strong colors and well-preserved surface. A striking and collectible piece of Swedish sports and design history that displays beautifully.
