This original vintage Swedish travel poster was designed in 1954 by Donald Brun (1909–1999) for Linje Buss – Swedish Transeuropean Bus Lines, promoting international coach travel between Sweden and destinations throughout Europe.
Brun created a wonderfully colourful and imaginative vision of European travel, placing a streamlined Linje Buss coach at the centre of a globe filled with destinations and cultural landmarks. Among the recognizable motifs are the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, classical architecture suggesting Rome and Italy, palm trees and sailing boats representing the Mediterranean, and, in the northern landscape, Sami people with reindeer, connecting the European journey back to Scandinavia and the far north.
The period touring coach, with its panoramic windows and roof luggage rack, recalls an era when international bus tours offered Scandinavian travellers an exciting and increasingly accessible way to explore continental Europe. The slogan “Swedish Transeuropean Bus Lines” emphasizes the international ambitions of Linje Buss and the growing popularity of European tourism during the 1950s.
Donald Brun (1909–1999) was a prominent Swiss graphic designer and one of the important figures in European post-war poster design. Known for his witty, colourful illustrations and strong graphic compositions, Brun worked for numerous major commercial and tourism clients. His distinctive playful style is immediately evident here, transforming a simple advertisement for bus travel into a joyful panorama of European destinations.
A particularly charming example of 1950s transportation and travel advertising, combining Scandinavian tourism, European landmarks and classic mid-century graphic design. With its bright colours and playful imagery, it is also a wonderfully decorative poster that would look equally at home in a travel collection, modern interior, or children's room.
In very good condition with a small water stain in the upper left area and light age wear.
