This original vintage Austrian travel poster promotes Tyrol (Tirol) and features a traditional Alpine farmhouse near Kitzbühel, one of Austria's best-known mountain resorts. Dating from around 1950, the poster was issued by the Austrian tourism authorities and features a photograph credited to Dr.-Ing. Rossmanith.
The black-and-white photograph presents an idyllic view of rural Tyrol, with a substantial traditional farmhouse dominating the foreground and the mountains and cultivated slopes surrounding Kitzbühel rising behind it. The wooden balconies, broad roof and characteristic Alpine architecture convey the traditional character of the region, while the small human figure in the courtyard emphasizes the impressive scale of the building.
Kitzbühel, in the Austrian state of Tyrol, developed into an internationally renowned Alpine destination during the first half of the 20th century. Although particularly famous for skiing and the legendary Hahnenkamm races, the region was also promoted for its historic villages, mountain scenery, hiking and traditional Tyrolean culture. This poster presents the quieter side of Kitzbühel, focusing on rural life and vernacular architecture rather than winter sports.
The restrained photographic composition is contrasted by the striking modern typography of “Tyrol” across the lower section. This combination of photography, generous white space and bold lettering gives the poster a distinctly mid-century appearance and makes it an attractive example of post-war Austrian tourism advertising.
A beautiful and atmospheric vintage Tyrol travel poster, particularly appealing to collectors of Austrian tourism, Alpine photography, Kitzbühel memorabilia and mid-century graphic design.
In very good condition with light age wear.
