This original vintage travel poster, crafted by Charles Shepard in 1931, was issued by Union Castle Line to promote their Tours to South Africa and holiday excursions to Madeira or the Canary Islands, as well as routes from London to Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Hamburg, and back.
Charles Shepard, also known as Shep, honed his artistry under Paul Woodroofe and later led the studio at the Baynard Press. He contributed his design skills to various notable entities, including the Southern Railway, British Rail, and the Royal Mail Packet Steamship Company.
Union Castle Line, established from the merger of Union Line and Castle Shipping Line, operated passenger liners and cargo ships between Europe and Africa from 1900 to 1977.
Despite minor flaws such as a repaired small loss on the left margin and two small holes in the image, this poster remains in very good condition, backed on linen for preservation.
