This rare authentic Danish poster from the 1910s advertises 10 oysters for 4 kroner at Oscar Fredericksen Fiskehuset No. 1, a well-known Copenhagen seafood restaurant and wholesaler founded in 1870. The artwork, signed SMM and printed by A/S Kruckow-Waldorff, features a glamorous mermaid with flowing golden hair holding a platter of oysters. Her shimmering green tail curves through stylized water below. The design feels like a tribute to Copenhagen’s most iconic figure, The Little Mermaid statue unveiled in 1913, echoing the city’s deep connection to the sea and its myths. The poster combines elegant Art Nouveau lines with bold typography in yellow, red, and violet, creating a striking and whimsical composition.
The price of 4.00 DKK in 1918 would be roughly equivalent to 150–200 DKK today (about $22–30 USD), indicating a quality product at a respectable price for the time. The poster is mounted on thin Japan paper with a large hinge at the top for easy framing. It has a small tear at the top but is otherwise in very good condition.
